Our Story

Hame fae Hame Ltd opened it’s doors 10 years ago, grown out of an existing childminding business that had exceeded it’s capacity. I began childminding as a means of remaining at home to care for my own five children and a foster child which I continued to do for 10 years; gradually building up my customer base and skills until I felt confident enough to launch the business.

I knew from the market demand that there was definitely a gap in the market for high quality, flexible childcare. After two years of study through the UHI I finally secured the qualification required to register as a childcare manager and through the local Housing Association secured premises to operate from. More importantly through my experience as a parent, childminder and foster carer I had a clear vision of the type of child care I wanted to provide.

Hame Fae Hame was therefore opened in 2008, located in Anderson’s Buildings on Main Street in Scalloway. I am very proud of the service we built and so thankful to all our wonderful families who used Hame Fae Hame as their preferred childcare provider.

In 2016 Hame Fae Hame moved premises, up the road onto the campus of Scalloway Primary School. The larger, multi room venue meant the nursery could expand and capacity could increase. The spacious location has also meant different rooms are available for different age groups as well as a lovely large kitchen/canteen area for the children to enjoy meals prepared by the school canteen.

It was always my intention to work closely with the existing establishments for children and families, and provide as far as possible a home away from home which would be play based and provide wrap around care for the periods not covered by the more structured based partner providers as these were more than adequately provided for.
