Our Premises
Hame Fae Hame is located on New Road in Scalloway. As you drive into Scalloway, just after the school lights turn right into ‘Upper Scalloway’ and you will see the Scalloway Surgery on your left. We share the same entrance and you will see our door when you enter.
Having moved to larger premises in 2016 we are delighted with the new space. We have a lovely spacious kitchen area where food can be prepared and plenty of space for tables/chairs and highchairs during mealtimes. Off the kitchen we also have a ‘sleep’ room where children can go for a nap either in a bed or in a pushchair.
We have 2 rooms – one for babies and younger children and another for older children. Each room is equipped with toys, books and play areas for the children to enjoy. We regularly have craft sessions (please ensure your child is not dressed in any special items of clothing) as well as sometimes welcoming special guests to provide other activities. Each room is monitored by several members of staff and children and never left unsupervised.
There are 2 toilets in the main foyer and we also have change stations in the younger room where nappy changes are carried out on a regular basis.
Our outdoor area is fully enclosed and we try to make use of it as often as possible (again, please ensure your child has suitable outdoor clothing). We have a wide variety of outdoor toys for the children to enjoy and often do outdoor activities such as flower planting.
Due to our location we are lucky to be able to take the children to use the pre-school play area, visit the play park and Scalloway Museum.

Prices & Payment
We try to keep our charges and fees as reasonable as we can. We charge an hourly rate as below but only charge for the time your child is in our care, to the closest 15mins, with a minimum per session of 1 hour.
Unlike most nursery and childcare providers we do not charge for holidays and sick days but ask that you give us as much advance notice as possible for both.
We try to be as flexible as possible with parent/carers schedules and work rotas though this is not always possible. We are happy to sit down with you to discuss your requirements and hope we can provide a solution.
Hourly rate: £5.40 (pre-school) and £4.80 (school aged)
Lunch: £1.85
Snack: £0.60
Invoices are prepared monthly and issued via our Famly management system, for which an individual log in and account is created. Payment is required within 14 days of the invoice date. Payment can be made by bank transfer, childcare vouchers, or direct through Famly Pay or PayPal.
Out of School
In addition to nursery and pre-school care we also offer out-of-school care for children up to the age of 12. If children attend Scalloway primary school or nursery we are able to both drop off and collect them. Otherwise, parents and carers are welcome to collect their children from school and drop them to Hame Fae Hame for a few hours in the afternoon.
Our out of school rate is charged at £4.80/hr.
Schedule/Curriculum
We believe that children should be free to learn and explore their surroundings in their own way and in their own time. We want to help and encourage the children to be inquisitive and develop their own imaginations through play and sensory activities. That said, we also believe that having a curriculum to follow is important in their growth and development so we closely follow the below strategies and guidelines:

Meals & Snacks
We very much promote healthy eating for all our children and ensure fruit and water or milk is offered at all snack times. We also provide a range of products to suit all dietary requirements. We provide 2 snacks through the day, a morning snack typically around 9.30am and an afternoon snack at 3pm. Lunch is served at 12.30pm and during term time is provided by the Scalloway school canteen (during school holidays our staff prepare fresh meals daily).

All snacks and meals are given in the kitchen/canteen area where older children are expected to sit a table and smaller children will be given highchairs.
We understand that children can be fussy or unsure of certain foods but we do encourage every child to try the food and will offer an alternative if necessary.

Registration
If you are considering Hame Fae Hame for your child(ren) please feel free to phone and arrange a visit. Our staff will be more than happy to show you around the nursery and answer any questions you may have. If possible you should also bring your child to the visit so they can see it for themselves and have a little play.
We also offer free ‘settling in’ sessions prior to your child starting with us. These are usually 1-2hr sessions once a week for several weeks before they are due to start. Although these sessions are not mandatory, we have found that they really help children settle in easier as they have become familiar with the building and the staff.

Exclusion Criteria for Illness & Infection
We know how easily infections and illnesses can be passed on, particularly in young children. In order to keep Hame Fae Hame as ‘bug free’ as possible, please follow the exclusion times in the document below. If you have any doubt about whether your child should attend due to illness please don’t hesitate to contact us.
