This months Living Wage newsletter featured Hame fae Hame after we were named the winner in the Small Business of 2020 competition by Sunday Times and Lloyds Banking Group in February. We are incredibly pleased to have been recognised within the newsletter and continue to be proud to be a Living Wage employer.
Living Wage businesses across Scotland have shown unprecedented levels of innovation, resilience and energy to meet the challenges of the past year. A number of employers in our network, like Scalloway nursery Hame Fae Hame, have gone above and beyond to help others in their community during this turbulent time.
During the first spring lockdown, Hame Fae Hame proved its community benefit as staff and children ran the village’s food bank scheme, bagging up essentials for those eligible for free school meals as well as other vulnerable people in the village and surrounding areas.
The nursery’s efforts have been recognised, and Hame Fae Hame was recently named the winner in Small Business of 2020 competition organised by Sunday Times and Lloyds Banking Group. The winners were chosen from the nominees based on how quickly and creatively they adapted to the challenges of 2020, and how they went above and beyond client’s expectations.
Business owner Kaye Sandison was delighted to receive the recognition:
“It was perfect timing for us. We’re all really tired now – I think everybody is, it [the pandemic] has gone on for so long. It was really nice that it was a parent that nominated us.
“Considering there was over 800 nominations, and we’re a tiny company in the middle of the North Sea, it was just really lovely to get the recognition.”
